Fall Calendar

Our fall calendar is out!  If you haven’t already recieved it you can download a copy now.  A few imortant dates coming up:

• 9/5 – Promotion Sunday & YB Normal Dinner
• 9/10 - Roundabout
• 9/15 – V-Group Kickoff
• 10/1 – Fall Retreat

Roundabout

The Roundabout is one of the biggest, and most highly anticipated, events we do all year and it is a perfect chance to invite a friend or check out our ministry for the first time. We stay out all night and travel around town to have as much fun as humanly possible.

The fun begins on Friday, September 10th at 10PM. We’ll start out at the YMCA with swimming, basketball, video games and just hanging out. After that we’ll head out for some bowling and then we’ll go out to LSCA camp for snacks, video games and maybe a little dodgeball in the gym! Finally, we’ll end our night at Showplace East to see a movie together.  A whole night of fun for only $20!

There is no need to sign up ahead of time but students do need to bring $20 and a complete permission form with them to the YMCA that night.  Then they’ll need to be picked up at Showplace East at 7AM.

YB Normal Welcome Dinner

If you’ve been to our YB Normal Welcome Dinner before you know it’s something no one will want to miss. We throw this party every year to welcome all of our new students, especially the incoming 6th graders. The dinner is Sunday, September 5th from 5-6PM in Centennial Hall. We ask all of our 7-8th grade students to come at 4PM to help setup and decorate.

PARENTS: We need your help providing and/or serving food for the dinner. Karen Siehr is coordinating the food for the evening but we need lots more parents to help out by bringing a dish. Please let her know if you’d be willing to help provide a food item of if you can help setup that afternoon.

Promotion Sunday

This time of year is always exciting as we kick off a new school year.  Promotion Sunday for all grades at West Side is Sunday, September 5th. That means our current 8th graders will officially join the High School ministry at 10:15AM on 9/5 in E204.

If you are beginning 6th grade this year, we’ve got several cool things planned to help welcome you into our Jr. High ministry.

• Our Parent Info Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24th at 5:15PM in E205. This is for all parents put if you’ve got a 6th grader you’re especially encouraged to come. Students are welcome to join their parents if they’d like to come as we talk a little about all of the cool things we’ve got planned this year.
• On Sunday, August 29th I’ll be visiting the Wild to introduce myself to graduating 5th graders, talk a little about our Jr. High ministry and tell everyone where they’ll be meeting starting on September 5th.
• Sunday, September 5th at 10:15AM we kick off a brand new year in Velocity.  We’ve got some really cool stuff planned this year so make sure you’re there from the very beginning!  Join us in E205 as we get the year started with a bang!
• That same evening (9/5) from 5-6PM in Centennial Hall we will be hosting our annual YB Normal Welcome Dinner. It is one of the highlights for the year for many of our students and I guarantee you won’t forget it.

Two other things you’ll want to mark on your calendar our Jr. High Roundabout on Friday night, September 10th and our V-Group Kickoff event on Wednesday, September 15th. We’ll be getting you more details soon but they are both things you will not want to miss out on.

Drive In Movie Night Recap

We had a blast last night at our “Drive In” Movie Night.  We built some cool (and strange) drive in vehicles.  We all kinds of things including a baby stroller, a weinermobile and  even a three car train!  As with any great event, we also consumed a  ridiculous about of candy.  Check it all out below.

8th Grade Graduation Party

On Sunday, August 15 from 6:00pm-9:00pm we’ll be celebrating the end of an era for our current class of 8th graders as they prepare to head on up to High School. We’re inviting all 8th graders (soon to be freshman) to come out to the Duff’s house.  We’ll grill some dinner, play some games, swim in the pool, give away some great prizes.

You aren’t required to RSVP but if you know you’re coming, email Chris and let him know so we know how much food to prepare.

Drive-In Movie Night

Coming up this Wednesday, August 4th from 6-8:30PM we’ll be hosting our final Velocity Fun Night of the summer.  We’ll meet in E205 and break into groups to create our “cars” for the drive in.  Every group will be provided with one big appliance box but you’re welcome to bring extra boxes for your group or even work on parts ahead of time.  The group with the best/most creative vehicle will win a fun prize!  After we finish building our cars we’ll all settle down with snacks and a fun movie.  I hope we’ll see you there and don’t forget to invite your friends!

Boys Water Party – Recap

Last Wednesday our boys and girls split up to have their own Wet & Wild pool parties.  A big thank you goes out to the Johnson’s and Hohm’s for hosting!  Here are a few fun pics from the boys event.

LSCA Summer Camp Recap

We had a great time out at Jr. High 1 at LSCA on July 11-16.  We had just under 100 kids, nearly 30 of whom were from West Side.  Here are a couple fun videos from the week.

Wet and Wild Parties

Coming up THIS WEDNESDAY (7/21) from 6-8PM we’ve got pool parties planned for our students.  We’re going to meet in two different locations:

     Boys – The Hohm’s House – 3904 Vanderbilt Circle, Springfield

     Girls – The Johnson’s House – 467 S. Farmingdale Rd, New Berlin

Be sure you bring your swimsuit, a towel and, if you can, a snack to share (we’ll provide drinks).  Then just come ready to have some fun!  And don’t forget, invite your friends!
