Last week we said goodbye to our graduating 8th graders as they begin a new chapter of their lives in High School. This is a little highlight video we made of their three years in Jr. High. We’ll miss you guys!

We had an AWESOME week last week out at Lake Springfield Christian Assembly. We had 102 kidswith 10 baptisms and many more rededications by the end of the week! You can see lots of pictures of our week on our Jr. High 1 Facebook page.
If you weren’t at Velocity on Sunday you missed a really fun morning. We signed close to 700 beach balls to send to our friends in Kenya. You can check out some of the pictures on our Facebook page now. We also watched a video shot in Kenya several years ago showing life in the Mathare slum and the difference the Missions of Hope schools have made in the life of several students we sponsor. This morning we concluded our most recent teaching series. If you have missed any of the weeks you can catch up on our previous postor listen to this morning’s message here (right click to download) or watch it on video.
Parents, hopefully you’ve already taken this opportunity to talk with your kids about boundaries, love, dating and sex. We tried to address some of the most vital issues but there are some things that we really can’t go into detail about in our Sunday morning programming. More than ever, your kids need you to keep the dialoge open.
This week I came acrossan article in the Washington Post by Christian author and speaker Mark Driscoll,”Talking to Your Kids about Sex“. One stat from the article I found particularly relevant was that “9out of 10 teens say it would be easier for them to avoid sexual activity if they were able to have more open conversations with their parents.”It is vital that you take the time to show your kids that you want to talk. Please take a couple of minutes to look the articleover for some great suggestions.
Finally, no matter your kids age, it’s never too early to open up dialoge. Catch this fun video that takes a humorous look at what can be challenging conversations.
We’re now two weeks into our Exposed series and we’ve gotten a great response so far. I’ve heard from a number of parents interested in more information about what we’re discussing so I wanted to pass on what I can to help best equip you to talk with your child. It could also be helpful if you’ve had to miss one of the weeks for any reason.
The series is based on something done at another church so I’ve attached their original outlines. I’ve also included mp3s of the audio for each message so far and even video (it’s a rough cut as we originally only intended to use the audio) of week two’s message.
PARENTS: This can be a tough topic to discuss with your kids but I’d encourage you to take advantage of this as an excuse to talk for the first time, or talk more in depth, about these topics. Look over the things we’re discussing in this series and then set aside a time now to get some ice cream or go to starbucks and talk things through. With such an important topic we want to make sure we address it with our kids at church but the real lessons will be learned, and lived, at home and throughout the week.

Loading ...Last weekend 40+ of us headed over to Little Galilee for the Fall Retreat. We had a blast together and got to know some new friends. If you missed it, make sure you check it out next year!
